A Conversation on Structural Racism and Implicit Bias

Empowering Conversation on Structural Racism and Implicit Bias at the Collaboratory

Fort Myers, FL - On Saturday, June 20, the Collaboratory in downtown Fort Myers was the site of a powerful and insightful conversation on structural racism and implicit bias. Presented by the FutureMakers Coalition, the event provided a platform for attendees to engage with personal stories and experiences, shedding light on the impact of discrimination.

During the event, Dr. Nicole King-Smith, of NK Enterprise Consulting, LLC, guided a thought-provoking conversation on structural racism and implicit bias, offering valuable insights and expertise. Alongside Tessa LeSage, also from the FutureMakers Coalition, the day-long conversation delved into the attitudes and stereotypes that unconsciously influence our understanding, actions, and decisions.

The initiative to address structural racism and implicit bias was launched by FutureMakers in September 2019, with the first day-long event taking place in February. The recent conversation was particularly significant, drawing inspiration from the heightened racial tension following the tragic killing of George Floyd.

Capturing the essence of the event, photographer Kinfay Moroti provided compelling visual documentation through photos and captions, encapsulating the emotional depth and thought-provoking discussions that unfolded.

The Collaboratory served as a space for open dialogue, reflection, and education, fostering a deeper understanding of the pervasive impact of structural racism and implicit bias in our society.
